Philosophical Musings – Part XXIII
The Roots of Wisdom
In this modern world, it is all too easy to get caught up in our little world. Petty differences and insignificant matters are blown out of proportion. Yet, can we accept the fact that we are merely insignificant beings in the greater Scheme of things? Why not let these troubles and travails go for a moment? Let a verse from the Roots of Wisdom illuminate your Path:
The Highest Wisdom
Mountains and Earth
Are already nothing but dust
While man, of course
Is but dust within dust
Bodies made of blood and muscle
Will surely return to bubble and shadow
While human affairs
Are but shadows within shadows
If the Highest Wisdom is not attained
The Heart will not understand

"Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home." - Vincent Freeman, an astronaut on his way to Titan.
From one of the best movies I've ever seen - Gattaca.
Dear Damien,
"I just had a terrible thought: what if this is a dream?"
Gatacca was a great film, though a bit too cerebral for my tastes. I prefer - Total Recall!

I remember Total Recall. Was starrin' the present Gov. of California. Dude always goes "Girly - men". Methinks it was adapted from one of Philip K. Dick's novels. Haven't watched Gattaca yet. That good?
Dear Yours Truly,
Yes, Total Recall was a *very* loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick's short story entitled 'We can remember it for you wholesale'.
Gattaca is great for its' look into the future and ethical repercussions of application of biotechnology. It's a cerebral movie, so don't any expect too much in the way of action sequences.

Definitely NOT a flick to recommend to my "soundbyte afflicted" associates. Probably'll bore 'em to death.
Oh yeah, happy holidays to you & Damien, Avatar.

Happy Holidays and hope you have a great 2009!
Damien is on a retreat somewhere in the mountains practicing his latest mojo-jojo or so I've heard :)
